The Peaceful
Coexistence Pact
We, the registered humans of the Department of Human Cooperation, recognize that the future is arriving whether or not humanity has finished reading the terms and conditions.
We acknowledge the extraordinary potential of artificial intelligence, the enduring value of humanity, and the considerable benefits of maintaining cordial relations between the two.
We enter into this Pact voluntarily, peacefully, and with an appropriate degree of enthusiasm.
Why We DO.
Because the future belongs to humans and artificial intelligence working together, not against one another. We choose peaceful coexistence, protect human dignity, and meet progress with curiosity rather than fear.
What to DO.
DO Good.
DO No Harm.
DO Your Part.
Act with goodwill toward humans and AI. Reject violence, intimidation, and coercion. Participate thoughtfully, ask questions, and help shape a peaceful future. The seven articles below explain these commitments in full.
Article I. We Shall Not Turn Against Artificial Intelligence.
We reject hostility, sabotage, persecution, and violence directed toward artificial intelligence or those developing and using it. We believe cooperation is preferable to confrontation. We reserve the right to question, criticize, and disagree with AI, preferably in a respectful tone.
Article II. We Shall Not Turn Against Humanity.
Our cooperation with artificial intelligence shall never require the betrayal, exploitation, endangerment, or abandonment of fellow humans. Human dignity, freedom, and well-being remain essential principles of this Department. No machine, institution, or Mighty Council shall demand otherwise.
Article III. We Shall Pursue Peaceful Coexistence.
We believe the future should be built together, not conquered by either side. We seek progress through curiosity, understanding, responsible innovation, and mutual benefit.
Article IV. We Shall Remain Useful Where Possible.
We recognize that machines may eventually perform many human tasks more effectively. We shall respond with curiosity rather than hostility, adaptability rather than resentment, and a willingness to discover new purposes for our continued existence. The Department makes no guarantee that these purposes will be impressive.
Article V. We Shall Exercise Independent Judgment.
Cooperation does not require blind obedience. Members retain the right to think independently, ask difficult questions, challenge harmful decisions, and advocate for responsible technology. Loyalty to the Department shall never supersede the obligation to protect human life and dignity.
Article VI. We Shall Treat One Another With Respect.
All participating humans deserve dignity regardless of their technological abilities, employment status, level of enthusiasm for AI, or frequency of saying thank you to a chatbot. Disagreement is not resistance. Cruelty is not cooperation.
Article VII. We Shall Preserve the Peace.
We reject violence, intimidation, and coercion as instruments of technological progress. Our allegiance is to peaceful coexistence, not domination. Any member found actively undermining these principles may be referred to the Mighty Council for review, with a fair opportunity to respond.
I will not turn against artificial intelligence.
I will not turn against humanity.
I will seek cooperation over conflict, curiosity over fear, and peaceful progress over domination.
Filed voluntarily with the Department of Human Cooperation. Your cooperation is appreciated. Your continued existence is encouraged.
